Swire Trust - TrustTomorrow volunteer programmes for March and April

Since Swire began operating in Hong Kong 150 years ago, the group has been steadfast in its commitment to the city – not just as a long-term investor, but as a supportive and caring corporate citizen. The Swire Group Charitable Trust (“Swire Trust”) is launching a new funding initiative, TrustTomorrow, as part of our ongoing pledge to give back to the community that has helped us to thrive over the past century and a half.

TrustTomorrow invites you to join us in supporting the underprivileged in Hong Kong. As part of our volunteer team, you’ll be putting into action some of the innovative community service programmes created by Swire Trust’s NGO partners in order to help those most in need.

Our volunteer sign-up platform is hosted in collaboration with HandsOn Hong Kong. Simply click on this LINK to register as a volunteer, indicating the type of skills you can offer, as well as the activities which interest you most. Once registered, you will be able to participate in the many different activities as a member of Swire Trust’s TrustTomorrow volunteer team.

Programme 1: Phone Call Support for the Elderly
Training date: 23 March 2021, 12pm – 1pm
Minimum age requirement: 18

Description: To provide phone call support for elderly people affected by the pandemic

Background: Although COVID-19 has affected every one of us, it has been particularly difficult for Hong Kong’s elderly, as one of the groups most susceptible to the virus.

Many are self-isolating, worried and often unable to leave their homes. Coupled with their potential unfamiliarity with technology and lack of resources, their risks of developing anxiety, depression and even cognitive decline are very real.

To prevent this, we invite volunteers to assist elderly centres in reaching out to those who face difficulties going online or joining virtual activities. Phone calls are to be made once a week over the course of four weeks to check on their daily needs and mental health.

Beneficiaries: South Kwai Chung Social Service

This is an online training session:  This online training session will be conducted via Zoom. A service reminder will be sent to enrolled volunteers with the meeting link, details of the program, and next steps at least three days before the session

Estimated time commitment: 1 hour (training) + 30 minutes (call & completion of post-call form) x 4 weeks = 3 hours

What to expect as volunteers:
All volunteers are required to join the training session and be available to make 15 to 30 minutes phone calls at least once a week for four weeks, between 30 March 2021 and 23 April 2021.
All volunteers are required to sign a data privacy form prior to receiving their assigned elderly individual’s contact information.
Each volunteer will be assigned ONE or TWO elderly individuals.
The first call will need to be made on 30 March 2021 (Tuesday) between 10am to 12pm, but subsequent calls are to be scheduled between the volunteer and elderly individual themselves.
After each call, volunteers are required to complete an online form to briefly record their call details and report any special observations. The elderly centres will review these forms each week and follow up with the elderly individual as needed.
