Programme - Oyster Reef Reconfiguration at Pak Nai

Date: 25 May 2024 (Saturday)

Time: 2:30pm - 8pm (Transportation time inclusive)

Location: Pak Nai, Yuen Long

Partner Organisation: The Nature Conservancy (TNC)

Quota: 55

Languages: Cantonese (supplemented with English)

Minimum Age:12

Event Description:
Embark on a weekend conservation mission with your family and friends, and wrap up your day with the beautiful sunset at Pak Nai! At Pak Nai, you will discover vast rows of oyster clumps resulting from abandoned oyster farming, which encroach on the feeding areas of endangered horseshoe crabs.

The conservation mission will start with an ecological tour, where volunteers can learn about Pak Nai’s ecosystem and biodiversity. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the endangered Chinese horseshoe crab on the mudflats! Guided by TNC’s team, volunteers will then work together to remove the oyster clump poles and transform them into natural reefs, in order to restore the ecosystem balance and enhance biodiversity in the area.

Swire Trust supports TNC in protecting Pak Nai’s rich biodiversity through research and conservation management, including such as horseshoe crab population survey, oyster reef reconfiguration, sustainable tourism promotion, and community education.
