Event Description: Come meet Harry Chan, the ‘Ghost Net Hunter’. An avid diver for 30 years, he spent the last decade hauling abandoned fishing nets out of the ocean as his mission to clean up Hong Kong’s waters. Harry will share with us his journey from being a retired businessman to a public advocate for change in marine pollution.
What are ghost nets?
Many of us may not be familiar with the term ghost nets, but this refers to abandoned or lost fishing equipment at sea, on beaches or in harbours. We will look at how ghost nets, aka the ‘silent killer’ of our seas, is endangering all kinds of marine lives, and surprisingly, also affecting humans too, posing hazards and economic losses in ways that we’ve never thought of. Come join our talk and find out what you can do to help fight against ghost nets!
Oceans Tomorrow, a marine conservation campaign supported by the TrustTomorrow initiative, not only explores the incredible world that lies beneath Hong Kong's waves. It examines the various factors that threaten its health and existence and identifies the actions we must take to preserve it for future generations.
